General Membership Meeting of May 26, 2009
Greetings Glenmar. Please know that after our regular general membership meeting on Tuesday May 26, our membership will be addressed by Mr. George Dunnigan of International Paints Inc. Mr. Dunnigan will be on hand to present data and comments on the current line of Interlux paints and how they can best be used in real life situations. He will be prepared to address any questions or concerns you might have about the best use of the products he represents. This will be a great opportunity to clear up any concerns you might have about how you are applying bottom paint or perhaps determine if you are using the best paint for the way that you use your boat. I know I would like to know how much additional drag is really created when you use a soft ablative versus a co-polymer ablative versus a hard modified epoxy paint. And then there are all of the exotic coatings put out by Interlux and its competitors targeted to racers. Is that stuff really that much better? And if it is, how do you make it work in real life? We all can’t have a diver scrub our boat weekly or dry sail.
All of the above comments are just about bottom paints. Do you have an older boat? Are you considering sprucing up a faded or chalky deck? Want to change the color of your hull? Need advice about a barrier coat? This is your opportunity to ask the expert. Even if you do not have a question that you want to pose, you might want to be there just to hear the information presented and hear others questions. It is likely that someone has a question related to a project you are considering, you just haven’t gotten that far yet in your planning so you don’t know yet that you have that question! Access to this kind of advice and expertise is not always there when you need it. Get what you can from this opportunity and put it in the bank. You will probably need this information in the future.
I hope you will be at the meeting on May 26. Say hello to all of your Glenmar friends and take advantage of a speaker that is sure to be of interest to all of us who want to continue to enjoy our sailing.
