First you gotta get the
position:
- Volunteer! It’s how you can all of a sudden find a bunch
of boats all going where you want to go!
- Have your spouse volunteer you.
It worked for me.
- Have a friend volunteer you because you did it to him
last year (fair is fair!)
Now that you have signed up to be cruise captain, this is how you
do it:
- Decide where to go (this is why you signed up in the
first place, right?)
- Tell every one else. Blast the list by
sending a message to Glenmar’s e-group list AND by sending your announcement
via e-mail to your Rear Commodore
at: brandywine@nni.com You can
send it as an attachment (MS Word or Corel WordPerfect) or e-mail message.
This is for inclusion as a Courseboard article. This must be sent to me by the
fifth day of the month prior to your cruise to give it time for inclusion.
-
This message should include the following information: Date, Time, and Place of
cruise, your projected itinerary. Cruise leader’s name and contact information.
People are expected to RSVP their intention to come on the cruise. This is only
courteous because you are expected to get enough beer, soda, wine, etc. The
RSVP’s come to you and you need to be aware of the boat’s captain’s names,
contact information in case you need to cancel due to inclement weather.
Please e-mail your list of boat names to me as a back-up.
- Not
every cruise has to have a cocktail party but they sure are popular. If you
decide to have one, you must purchase the supplies, etc. Please save your
receipts. YOU WILL NOT GET REIMBURSED WITHOUT ONE! In many cases, items will
be left over from previous cruises. Feel free to use that and pass your excess
to the next cruise captain.
- On the day of the cruise, you are the one
to decide that the cruise is a “go” or not. If you decide that it is prudent to
cancel or divert a trip, you must call everyone on your list.
- Make
the destination announcements on Channel 72 at 11:00, 11:35 AM. and at
4:30 P.M. As the designated host, the Cruise Captain will ensure that everyone
is aware of the destination, and if necessary, the anchorage location.
-
When you arrive at your destination, please look out for your fleet. Keep track
of who is present and who has yet to arrive. One of the great benefits of
sailing with a group is the ability to help your fellow boater in time of
need. It has happened more than once!
- Fly the large Glenmar Flag
proudly to identify our group. All individual boats should be flying their
burgees as well. You, as well as the individual boat captains, make the
decision as to whether it is safe to raft-up. It is not a requirement.
-
Welcome the individual boats and crews. Our trademark is our friendliness.
-
Once back from your cruise and after you have time to reflect on the fun time you had,
please write up an up-beat summary of the cruise. Include what boats came,
where you went, what were the high points of the cruise, etc. It should convey
the feel of the cruise. If you have stayed at a marina or if a marina has
offered services, space, or facilities for Glenmar use, please be sure to send
them a thank you. Kindness keeps us coming back! In the past, numerous boats
seemed to come into the harbor using the Braille method of navigation (bumping
along the ground). Don’t be afraid to include that in your write-up. Keep a
wary eye open for any possible future winners of the left-handed golf-club
award! Send this summary to me
at: brandywine@nni.com.
We’d like to get it into the next Courseboard if at all possible so please
send it quickly.
- Please e-mail me (above) to get the address
for mailing ALL receipts to me for payment.
ABOVE ALL, HAVE FUN, and
THANKS!!!
